Culture eats training for breakfast.

“Policing culture is an approach to public service, passed on by instruction and observation through generations, that is learned and accepted by individuals as the right way to exercise tremendous power and discretion every day.”

Policing Culture Definition, IAPR

IAPR’s Police Training helps departments identify and understand their authentic culture and address problematic behaviors preventing them from aligning with their core values. These programs are designed to take departments to the next level by equipping them with strategies for culture change and leadership as well as clearly defining their values, mission, and vision.

WORKSHOPS & PROGRAMS

1. Identifying & Understanding Your Department’s Culture

2. Building Strategies for Culture Change

3. Exploring Values, Mission, And Vision

4. Effective Leadership Strategies

Our comprehensive training series equips police departments with the tools to transform their culture, craft a clear vision, and implement effective leadership strategies that align with core values and the community’s expectations. The culture workshops are our cornerstone products. They are preceded by department-wide surveys, interviews, and assessments that inform the facilitation. From these surveys, assessments, and workshop responses, reports are created that offer actionable steps which a Chief can deploy with their executive leadership teams.

CULTURE WORKSHOP TESTIMONIALS

As I stepped into the role of Chief of Police, one of my first priorities was assessing the culture within the organization and learning what adjustments needed to be made.  A team from The Institute for American Policing Reform taught the Identifying and Understanding Organizational Culture course to our department supervisors and a cross section of department staff members.   The course generated a deeper understanding of employees’ perception of department issues. We uncovered frustrations that had lingered for years.  This was an opportunity for open and holistic conversations as we crafted a plan to make organizational adjustments.  We left the course invigorated to make positive and lasting changes.

I commend the Institute of American Policing Reform for its exceptional review, which offered valuable insights into our department's subculture and internal perspectives of staff across various divisions and units. Their approach fostered a comfortable environment, enabling staff to share feedback openly without fearing retribution. Nick, Eric, and the team demonstrated a high level of expertise in guiding department members through the workshop and meticulously evaluating the feedback received. The outcome was a comprehensive report and roadmap for improvements. IAPR delivered invaluable feedback, which played a crucial role in enabling the leadership team to swiftly implement changes, ensuring the well-being and concerns of Department staff were effectively addressed.
